| Objective | Awarded in silver to the officers of the Hessen-Darmstadt regiment for thwarting a Patriot attack on Soestdijk Palace. |
| (Historical) context | In the 1780s, the Republic was ravaged by a civil war. Supporters of Stadtholder William V and the anti-Stadtholder Patriot Party were pitted against one another. The province of Utrecht, in particular, was deeply divided. In July 1787, Patriot troops launched an attack on the Stadtholder’s summer residence, Soestdijk Palace. |
