The Order of the Crown was established by Royal Decree on 20 November 1969 as part of the House Order of Orange and is intended for foreign nationals who have rendered distinguished service to the Royal Family. The order comprises five classes: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight, as well as three honorary medals in gold, silver and bronze.
The medals were produced by Koninklijke Begeer.
The Order of the Crown is still awarded today and is listed in the order of precedence for honours, as laid down by the Minister of the Interior.
