The Foreign Visits Medal was established in 2013 to recognise individuals involved in the preparation or execution of a foreign visit by the Head of State or an incoming visit to the Head of State. It replaces the medals of the House Order of Orange and the Order of the Crown, which were previously awarded on the occasion of foreign visits.
The medal was struck at the Royal Mint; it was designed by Hans Johny van Houwelingen.
The Medal for Overseas Visits is listed in the order of precedence for honours established by the Minister of the Interior.
